On the morning of January 16, 2023, I found myself standing in one of the long, polished corridors of Kenneth Kaunda International Airport a moment that would later become a symbol of a chapter in my career I hold close to my heart. Clad in my signature blue shirt and red tie, with my ID tag resting over my chest and a small package in hand, I paused briefly for a photo perhaps unknowingly capturing more than just an image, but a memory of ambition, service, and transition.
At the time, I was serving as an ICT Officer under Zambia Airports Corporation Ltd (ZACL), a role that demanded both technical precision and strategic coordination. My days were often filled with configuring network devices, resolving end-user issues, maintaining the airport’s IT infrastructure, and ensuring seamless communication across departments that literally kept the country moving. There was no room for error when systems controlled flight schedules, security surveillance, and critical passenger information.
Working at KKIA was both challenging and rewarding. I had the privilege of being part of a team that safeguarded one of Zambia’s most critical entry points where thousands of people passed through each day, and where technology quietly powered every interaction. Behind the scenes, I learned not only how systems work but how they fail, how to adapt quickly, and how to troubleshoot under pressure with both professionalism and calm.
What stands out most about that photo is not the corridor or the formal attire, but the sense of purpose that radiated from that day. It was a time when I was constantly learning, engaging with a broad spectrum of stakeholders from security teams to airline IT reps and building a foundation that would later support my transition into larger tech roles.
That period at ZACL also taught me the value of structure and standards. Aviation ICT does not tolerate shortcuts. Every process had to comply with both national and international aviation regulations, and every solution I proposed had to be resilient, scalable, and secure. It shaped how I approach IT solutions even today whether I am working with a startup, consulting on systems design, or managing support operations.
Looking back, that hallway at KKIA felt like more than just a passageway. it was a runway for my career, and this photo reminds me that even the most routine moments can hold deep meaning.

Le matin du 16 janvier 2023, je me suis retrouvé debout dans l’un des longs couloirs polis de l’aéroport international Kenneth Kaunda, un moment qui deviendrait plus tard le symbole d’un chapitre de ma carrière que je tiens près de mon cœur. Vêtu de ma chemise bleue signature et de ma cravate rouge, avec ma carte d’identité sur la poitrine et un petit paquet à la main, j’ai fait une pause pour une photo, capturant peut-être sans le savoir plus qu’une simple image, mais un souvenir d’ambition, de service et de transition.
À l’époque, j’étais officier ICT sous la Zambia Airports Corporation Ltd (ZACL), un rôle exigeant à la fois une précision technique et une coordination stratégique. Mes journées étaient souvent remplies de configuration de dispositifs réseau, de résolution de problèmes des utilisateurs finaux, de maintenance de l’infrastructure informatique de l’aéroport et d’assurance d’une communication fluide entre les départements qui gardaient littéralement le pays en mouvement. Il n’y avait pas de place à l’erreur lorsque les systèmes contrôlaient les horaires de vol, la surveillance de sécurité et les informations cruciales des passagers.
Travailler à KKIA était à la fois challenging et gratifiant. J’ai eu le privilège de faire partie d’une équipe qui protégeait l’un des points d’entrée les plus critiques de la Zambie, où des milliers de personnes passaient chaque jour, et où la technologie alimentait silencieusement chaque interaction. En coulisses, j’ai appris non seulement comment les systèmes fonctionnent, mais aussi comment ils échouent, comment s’adapter rapidement et comment résoudre des problèmes sous pression avec professionnalisme et calme.
Ce qui ressort le plus de cette photo n’est ni le couloir ni le tenue formelle, mais le sentiment de but qui émanait de cette journée. C’était une période où j’apprenais constamment, interagissant avec un large éventail d’intervenants, des équipes de sécurité aux représentants IT des compagnies aériennes, et construisant une base qui soutiendrait plus tard ma transition vers des rôles technologiques plus importants.
Cette période à ZACL m’a aussi appris la valeur de la structure et des normes. L’ICT aéronautique ne tolère pas les raccourcis. Chaque processus devait respecter les réglementations nationales et internationales de l’aviation, et chaque solution que je proposais devait être résiliente, évolutive et sécurisée. Cela a façonné ma manière d’aborder les solutions informatiques aujourd’hui, que je travaille avec une startup, que je consulte sur la conception de systèmes ou que je gère des opérations de support.
En regardant en arrière, ce couloir à KKIA semblait être plus qu’un simple passage. C’était une piste pour ma carrière, et cette photo me rappelle que même les moments les plus routiniers peuvent avoir une signification profonde.

Wakati huo, nilikuwa nikifanya kazi kama Afisa wa ICT chini ya Zambia Airports Corporation Ltd (ZACL), jukumu ambalo lilihitaji usahihi wa kiufundi na uratibu wa kimkakati. Siku zangu mara nyingi zilijaa kuweka usanidi wa vifaa vya mtandao, kutatua matatizo ya watumiaji wa mwisho, kudumisha miundombinu ya IT ya uwanja wa ndege, na kuhakikisha mawasiliano ya pamoja kati ya idara ambazo ziliweka nchi ikiendelea. Hakukuwa na nafasi ya makosa wakati mifumo ilidhibiti ratiba za ndege, uchunguzi wa usalama, na taarifa za ziada za abiria.
Kufanya kazi katika KKIA kulikuwa na changamoto na pia tuzo. Nilikuwa na fursa ya kuwa sehemu ya timu iliyolinda moja ya viingilio vya maana zaidi vya Zambia ambapo maelfu ya watu walipitia kila siku, na ambapo teknolojia iliyosimama kimya iliamsha kila mwingiliano. Nyuma ya pazia, nilijifunza sio tu jinsi mifumo inavyofanya kazi bali pia jinsi inavyoshindwa, jinsi ya kubadilika haraka, na jinsi ya kutatua matatizo chini ya shinikizo kwa ustadi na utulivu.
Kile kinachojulikana zaidi kuhusu picha hiyo sio korido au mavazi rasmi, lakini hisia ya kusudi iliyotokana na siku hiyo. Ilikuwa wakati ambapo nilikuwa nikijifunza kila wakati, nikishirikiana na wadau wengi kutoka timu za usalama hadi wawakilishi wa IT wa ndege na kujenga msingi ambao baadaye ungetegemeza mabadiliko yangu katika majukumu makubwa ya teknolojia.
Kipindi hicho cha ZACL pia kilinifundisha thamani ya muundo na viwango. ICT ya anga haivumilii njia za mkato. Kila mchakato ulipaswa kuzingatia kanuni za kitaifa na za kimataifa za anga, na kila suluhisho nililopendekeza lilipaswa kuwa la uimara, linaloweza kukua, na salama. Hiyo ilibadilisha jinsi ninavyoshughulikia suluhisho za IT hata leo ikiwa ninafanya kazi na kampuni mpya, kushauriana juu ya muundo wa mifumo, au kusimamia operesheni za usaidizi.
Kuangalia nyuma, korido hiyo ya KKIA ilihisi kama zaidi ya njia tu. Ilikuwa njia ya ndege ya kazi yangu, na picha hii inanikumbusha kuwa hata nyakati za kawaida zaidi zinaweza kuwa na maana ya kina.
